President’s Message – September 2024

Dear IADT Family,

Although we are still basking in the warm glow of great memories and experiences from the recent 22nd World Congress on Dental Traumatology (WCDT 2024) in Tokyo, Japan, it is time to move on to new and exciting events and developments for the IADT. WCDT2024 was a tremendous success and provided a wonderful opportunity for me to see many of you in person. I am looking forward to seeing you again, along with many others who were unable to attend the Tokyo Congress, in September 2026, in Warsaw, Poland, for the 23rd World Congress on Dental Traumatology (WCDT 2026). The IADT’s Meetings Committee and the local committee in Poland are already hard at work planning another extraordinary congress.

Next on the IADT’s agenda is the inauguralGlobal Dental and Oral Trauma Day”, a special day set aside annually on September 21st to recognize, promote, and encourage both the prevention and the proper management of traumatic dental and oral injuries around the world. Please join us and invite your colleagues, patients and communities to celebrate this day. You are encouraged to share your experiences and thoughts with us on social media. You will find many exciting features related to this special day on our new website and in our social media pages. We have prepared sample letters that you can use to approach local media to request coverage and for local authorities to recognize and proclaim this special day as Global Dental and Oral Trauma Day. In addition, there are other useful materials and links the you can share with your communities to promote dental and oral health and safety for all. Additional information will be available soon on how you can engage, contribute, and support this special mission.

In another exciting development, the IADT and The Dental Trauma Guide have entered into a joint venture to work on updating the classification of tooth resorption.  A joint committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Paul Abbott, former Editor-In-Chief of Dental Traumatology, is tackling this challenging task The aim is to develop a consensus on the terminology and description of the many types of tooth resorption and related pathologies. The committee has developed a clear roadmap for gaining external validation and establishing clarity in this grey area of dental traumatology. The goal is to publish the committee’s conclusions and a definitive lexicon of definitions early in 2025.

Finally, we are working with speakers from the Tokyo World Congress (WCDT2024) on a special issue of our flagship journal, Dental Traumatology. This issue will present the congress proceedings and consist of a core collection of review papers derived from presentations given at this worldwide gathering.

Yours,

Liran Levin

President, IADT
