President’s Message June 2024

Dear IADT Family,

We are now less than two weeks away from the greatest dental trauma event of the year, the 22nd World Congress on Dental Traumatology (WCDT 2024), in Tokyo, Japan! We cannot wait to see the hundreds of students, clinicians, educators, researchers, and corporate representatives who have registered for the congress. Apart from the top-of-the-line educational sessions, we will have the chance to enjoy each other’s company at the multiple social events scattered throughout the schedule. We will also welcome our new IADT Fellows in the traditional Fellows’ Breakfast. See you soon!

The Research Committee, chaired by our secretary, Fabricio Teixeira, is pleased to announce the winners of the prestigious 2023 Tsukiboshi Research Award competition. The first-place award goes to Dick Barendregt, et al. for their paper titled “An evaluation of 1654 premolars transplanted in the posterior region – A retrospective analysis of survival, success and complications”.  Dr. Barendregt will receive the first-place award of US $1000. The second-place award goes to Kate Kenny, et al. for the article titled “Improving data quality from routine clinical appointments – development of a minimum data set for traumatic dental injuries in children and adolescents”. Dr. Kenny will receive the second-place award of US $500. There were many high-quality papers submitted to the competition. Narrowing the field down to the top two papers was a huge challenge.  We would like to thank all the applicants for their hard work and worthy contributions to the field of Dental Traumatology.

The “Global Dental and Oral Trauma Day” is now official and will be celebrated annually on September 21st. This specially designated day is dedicated to promoting prevention and proper management of traumatic oral and dental injuries around the world. Watch for further developments, updates, and opportunities as we approach this important day of global significance. We invite you to join us in our commitment to promote dental and oral health and safety for all – stay tuned to learn how you can engage, contribute and support this special mission.

Last, but definitely not least, I would like to congratulate Professor Paul Abbott again on behalf of the IADT membership and board for his selection to receive the Jens O. Andreasen Lifetime Achievement Award in Dental Traumatology. The Andreasen Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest award that can be conferred upon a member of the IADT. It is given only occasionally to distinguished IADT members who, during their lifetime, have made exceptional contributions to the field of dental traumatology in research, education, and organizational leadership. Congratulations Paul for receiving this prestigious award for a lifetime of accomplishment professionally.

Finally, please remember to renew your membership for 2024if you haven’t done so. While renewing your membership, consider a donation to the IADT to help fund the important educational efforts of the IADT.

Yours,

Liran Levin

President, IADT
