Dear IADT Family,
To all of you who read my monthly messages, thank you for responding to them when something strikes a harmonious chord or contrarily feels discordant. Last month, my message contained the story of the riveting Canada-USA men’s gold medal hockey game at the Winter Olympic Games in Italy and the dental traumatic injuries sustained by an American player during a high stick incident. Following your positive and supportive responses, the IADT’s Executive Committee decided to officially communicate with both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the National Hockey League (NHL) to raise awareness of and concern for the policies that appear to be guiding current management of in-game traumatic dental injuries (TDIs). In this instance, the player who sustained the injuries did not receive any urgent care treatment during the game.
My letters to the IOC and the NHL emphasized the prevention, recommended urgent treatment, and follow-up for TDIs. I offered the support and expertise of the IADT in the areas of guidance development, protocol formulation, and effective educational initiatives for the prevention and management of TDIs.
As the leading global organization dedicated to dental trauma, the IADT hopes that these communications will raise awareness of these critically important issues at the highest level of contact sports. They also reinforce our continued strong commitment to working in alignment with the mission of the IADT.
New dates for the upcoming fellowship exam are now available. Check out our website for more information about how to earn Fellowship and become an IADT Fellow. You will be joining the highest membership tier of the IADT. Additionally, it will enable you to present yourself as a Fellow of the IADT in official communications and media.
In just a few weeks, representatives from the IADT board will meet in Salt Lake City, Utah (USA) with the directors of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) and other prominent international associations as part of an International Forum organized by the AAE. This annual gathering provides a unique opportunity to hear what is happening with the various associations, showcase the IADT’s activities, and open the door for future collaborative efforts between the IADT, the AAE, and other leading global organizations.
Remember to renew your IADT membership for 2026.
