January 2025 President’s Message

Dear IADT Family,

It is hard to believe that 2024 passed so rapidly and now we are beginning a new year. I want to start 2025 by first thanking YOU, the IADT members, for your unwavering and enthusiastic support of the IADT. Your dedication makes a huge difference and is irreplaceable for achieving the organization’s mission of enabling clinicians around the globe to gain the knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality patient care for victims of dental trauma. We can all be proud of both our collective and individual achievements in the last year.

I extend a special thanks to the members of the IADT Board of Directors who served during the 2023-2024 term. All board members dedicated considerable time, experience, and expertise to help our association move forward in many directions. I want to individually mention the following board members who completed their board service on 31 December 2024. Fortunately, they will continue to support the IADT in the new term as committee members and in other organizational support roles.

  • Geertje van Gorp (Belgium)
  • César De Gregorio (Spain)
  • Koyo Takimoto (Japan)
  • Nitesh Tewari (India)
  • Georgios Tsilingaridis (Sweden)

I also want to thank Zafer Çehreli (Turkey), who contributed immensely to IADT’s mission accomplishment before he had to step down in 2024 from the President-Elect position for family reasons.

Finally, thanks are due to the hard-working IADT officers for their leadership, creative thinking, and indefatigable work during the last term. They helped make the IADT what it is today, a vibrant association of caring dental professionals who serve a global need for high quality dental trauma education and patient service.

All members of the IADT can be proud of the many achievements, innovations, and progress we have made over the last term. Although not complete, the following list highlights many of them.

  • Inaugurated the IADTube Channel to provide state-of-the-art lectures free of charge to our members.
  • Established and raised significant funds for the Tsukiboshi Award for Research in Dental Traumatology.
  • Continued the Case Report Competition with many high-quality submissions.
  • Continued or enhanced collaboration with the Dental Trauma Guide (DTG), Academy for Sports Dentistry (ASD) and the American Association of Endodontists (AAE).
  • Maintained stable membership numbers during difficult years of global professional change and the world-wide pandemic.
  • Enhanced IADT’s presence on multiple social media platforms to promote the goals of the IADT.
  • Inaugurated weekly “DT-Shorts” and “Research Reports” on social media to increase awareness for dental trauma research and clinical innovations in dental traumatology.
  • Published the joint “IADT-ASD Guidelines for Prevention of Traumatic Dental Injuries.”
  • Maintained a stable IADT treasury and, in a first for the IADT, established a reserve account.
  • Designed and introduced a new IADT logo.
  • Increased awareness and interest in the IADT Fellowship.
  • Selected Professor Paul Abbott (Australia) for the Jens O. Andreasen Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Inaugurated a new and more user friendly IADT website.
  • Held the most successful International Congress on Dental Traumatology (WCDT 2024) in IADT’s history in Tokyo, Japan (attendance: 1000+).
  • Initiated and celebrated the first Global Dental and Oral Trauma Day on 21 September 2024.

It is a distinct honor and privilege for me to have been elected by the board to serve as president of this amazing organization for a second two-year term. I look forward to another highly successful term carrying out new plans and continuing ongoing programs for 2025. I eagerly look forward to seeing many of you in Brazil for the IADT’s South American regional meeting in May 2025, and then in Warsaw, Poland, in September 2026 for the 23rd World Congress on Dental Traumatology (WCDT 2026). Together we will celebrate and enhance our passion for the prevention and treatment of dental traumatic injuries.

Please remember to renew your membership in the IADT for 2025, if you have not done so yet. While renewing your membership, feel free to use the donation button on our website as well!

Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year, and a year of peace and light!
