Dear IADT Family,
I just returned from the hugely successful South American Regional Meeting in Brazil. With more than 400 registrants coming from many South American countries and beyond, renowned local and international speakers provided the latest in dental traumatology diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. In addition, attendees had access to more than 100 abstract presentations. This meeting was a true celebration of the passion worldwide professionals have for preventing dental trauma and treating its victims when it occurs. During the conference days, several social events were available for registrants. They were brimming with collegiality, friendship, and fun. I would like to thank all the wonderful people involved in organizing this magnificent event. At the center of the conference planning was the organizing committee, chaired by Dr. Carlos Soares. Under his leadership, the committee worked day and night over the last year to make this meeting the great success it was.
Start planning now. Our next big event will be the 23rd World Congress of Dental Traumatology, scheduled for September 2026 in Warsaw, Poland. I have been assured by the organizing committee that this congress will be a record-breaking event with great hands-on workshops, scintillating lectures, and rousing social activities that will leave us all amazed and better able to handle the challenges of dental and oral trauma.
The IADT recently announced the winners of the Case Report Competition. This year we had an outstanding group of 23 papers submitted for consideration. I want to thank Dr. Fabricio Teixeira, chair of the Research Committee, for his outstanding leadership and the other members of the committee for the many hours they spent carefully evaluating the case reports. The selection process was thorough, erudite, and impartial in determining the top two papers in the competition. Congratulations to the winners, Alina Wikström from Sweden (1st place) and Col Sonali Sharma from India (2nd place).
It is time to begin planning your activities for Global Dental & Oral Trauma Day. This special day, observed annually, is scheduled for September 21, 2025. This is a day to celebrate and recognize the significant impact dental and oral trauma has on the lives of both its victims and the professionals who diagnose and treat these victims worldwide. It also highlights the dental community’s role in managing dental trauma and the standout role that IADT plays in the field. Dr. Katie Divine and the Global Dental & Oral Trauma Day planning group are working to expand and promote the many ways to celebrate this important day not only this year but in future years. Feel free to contact us with any original ideas on how to make this day even more meaningful.
Thank you all for being members of the IADT and supporting our amazing association. Your dedication goes a long way toward improving the lives of dental trauma victims around the world.
